Craig & Jills Round the World Trip
From vegas we drove to the Grand canyon stopping off at Hoover dam for a quick look around. We arrived at the Grand Canyon late Friday afternoon, and were shocked to find it was freezing. We for some reason always imagined it to be red hot here, but it was 50 degrees and windy and damp. However the weather didn't spoil the amazing view down into the canyon. You cannot believe how big it is, especially aftre driving for hours through desert. It suddenly appears through the trees from nowhere, and goes on for miles and miles. Literally as far as the eye can see. It also glows various shades of red even wihout the sun shining. On saturday morning we got up early and headed to the canyon viewing points as it was a lovely sunny day. We were shocked to see half the canyon hidden under a layer of fog. We had got a hellicopter ride booked for the morning but it wasn't looking good. Luckily by the time we took off the fog had cleared. We went on an amazing 50 min ride over the canyon, seeing the colorado river down in the bottom, twisting through. Jill got a perfect view again up front with the pilot. Craig in the back in the cheap seats! The flight makes you appreciate the sheer size of the canyon, and gives you a spectacular view. From here we took the 500 mile drive back through nothing to Upland in LA to our friends James & Emmas. The drive makes you relaise how big America is, during the drive we passed 3 small towns and bedrock city, where we met Fred flinstone, yabba dabba doo.
