I woke at 5 am and got myself ready for a day of zip lining. I waited at reception until the mini bus picked me up. There was already a lot of people on the bus, so I sat in the middle of a couple. We all got talking and it turned out three of us were afraid of heights! What the hell was I getting myself in for. Our first stop was Mae Komp village which was tiny little place where they made all sorts of traditional Thai products such as hand weaved baskets, tea stuffed pillows and a number of different herbs. It was really cold in the village although the sun was shining! Everyone was in thick coats and hats which was weird to see in Thailand! We then carried on to the top of the rainforest to the zip lining centre. We got all our equipment on and headed to the first zip line. From that point, the only way back was zip lining with a total of 17 zip lines, some over 800 meters long! I was petrified at first but after completing the first one, each one there after became more enjoyable...but still a tad scary! The most frightening one for me was the superman zip line. You are attached to a zip line, but on your back so you can't feel that your attached to anything before you jump. I found that really difficult to jump off of!
We stopped in the rainforest and watched the Gibbons in the trees for a while. Gibbons are types of ape that only live in trees, they never walk on the ground if they can help it. They were amazing to watch. We also saw huge strands of bamboo. I learnt that bamboo is a species of grass with over 150 different types in the world. Some can grow up to 1 metre in a day. After all the zip lining, we completed 2 different points of abseiling, with the longest being 45 metres. Once we finished, we headed back to the main centre and had a traditional Thai lunch together while a Thai band played us relaxing music.
Once we'd finished, we headed to our final stop, a natural waterfall! This was the best waterfall I've seen so far. We climbed to the top by the side of it, it was so long!
Once we were finished at the waterfall, we headed back to the hostel in the mini bus in which we all fell asleep! We arrived back to mine and I said goodbye to everyone I had met. I caught a tuk tuk into town for the last time and had a Starbucks! I just sat and watched the world go by without any distraction and pondered over my trip so far and how lucky I have been! I FaceTimed mum and Evie that night to catch up on what I had been doing. I was actually surprised at how much I'd enjoyed being on my own. It's completely different to travelling with others, not better or worse. I liked that I could decide what I did everyday without having to compromise all the time, and I liked the fact that you meet more people in your own. That night, I sorted out my stuff ready for my flight to HK in the morning and had an early night.
