We woke to glorious sunshine which was a massive surprise considering all the weather forecasts for Fiji over the last month had suggested Fiji would be experiencing heaving rain fall and thunderstorms every single day. We even considered not coming at one point. On speaking to one of the locals, he told us that tropical thunderstorms would mean a little rain in the morning before we woke up, then rain in the afternoon around 4, other than that it would be sunshine all day! Yippee!
We met Rhys and Brittany for breakfast and chatted about our plan for the day. We had heard about the mud spa hot springs so were keen to try them later that day. We organised a mini bus for 7 of us including others we had met the night before. With that sorted for 1.45pm, we decided to hit the beach.
The sea was so warm, genuinely like walking into a bath. After an hour or so chatting in the sea, Rhys and Brittany were keen to get on the beers and had bought us in a round. By this point it was only 10.30am. Rhys introduced us to a mix of whisky and Coke in a can called Woodstock. I didn't really like it but at 8% for only 5 dollars, you couldn't really say no! Matt and I hadn't really experienced this side of travelling since we left, it had been just the two of us pretty much the last two months so to meet a fun couple up for a laugh was really nice for us! Needless to say, a number of rounds later, we nearly missed our mini bus pick up!
The mud spa pools were amazing, it had just started to rain too which added to the experience. We were all a little more than tipsy, sliding all over the shop in the thick warm mud! After mud fights and an attempt at a human pyramid, we decided to wash off and head into Nadi for dinner together. We found a lovely Chinese and ordered enough food for 15. It was really good food!
The drinking didn't stop there. That night we headed back to the hostel and carried on. I was then drinking a type of Fijian alcopop called Tribe and which I could drink a lot easier than the Woodstock. It had been such a funny day, I had been crying laughing. It was really refreshing for both Matt and I to be around other people too. I couldn't wait for the next few days!
