Day 21: The Long & Winding Road.
We set off early this morning (about 8.30am) and it wasn't long before we hit the stretch of highway known as the 'Big Sur'.
From this point, my beloved's navigation skills were not required - turn too hard left and I cross the lane into opposing traffic and a mountain face; turn too far right and it's a loooong way down to the ocean below - I kinda had it covered!
Given we were heading south, my driver's side was hugging the centre strip, while Nic's passenger side got the 'joy' of riding the cliff's edge (refer posted video as a 20 second example of what it was like for 2 hours!).
Throw in a few narrow bridges and there never was a dull moment.
It was one of the best (if not quietest) drives I've ever done, dare I say even giving our own Great Ocean Road a run for its money.
By lunchtime the roads had straightened a little and we arrived for a tour of Hearst Castle.
As you'll see, we took heaps of photos here, but they do little justice to the joint. Massive. The views from up top, just spectacular.
From there it took another couple of hours (quite tame compared to the morning's drive) to arrive at our destination of Santa Barbara.
Like we've done all holiday, we struck good on the accommodation front, more than happy with our suite here at the Brisas del Mar Inn.
After munching on some Mexican takeout, we've decided to have a quiet night in tonight - we'll see what SB has to offer tomorrow.
