Cuba - More than old cars
Left Penticton about 11.15am and drove to Vancouver via the southern route going through Princeton then Hope. Stopped in Hope at the Blue Moose Coffee House (again) for an afternoon snack before continuing on our way. Easily found our hotel in West Vancouver near the heart of downtown Vancouver.
We were very close to an area known as Davie Village that had lots of character including many restaurants and probably the most expensive (land wise) community garden anywhere. The area goes by a number of names including Gaybourhood. It has its own street banner - see picture included here. We had 2 great meals in the area; an Iranian dinner the night we arrived and an Italian lunch the following day. As we walked passed some of the premises the 'fragrance' reminded us of Amsterdam's coffee shops.
As our flight to London was not until the evening we walked into the city to visit the Vancouver Art Gallery. There were a number of exhibitions some of them being the following:
1. Picasso "The Artist and his Muses". We have seen a number of Picasso exhibitions but this one showed the influence the 6 women in his life had on his painting. In addition to the paintings was a 1956 movie (The mystery of Picasso) showing him painting images on the other side of glass plate.
2. Emily Carr (Canadian Painter) and Wolfgang Paalen (German, Austrian, Mexican painter). This exhibition was about the documentation of monumental art of the Northwest Coast First Nations.
3. Stephen Waddell' (Canadian photographer and painter). His was a photographic exhibition of underground caverns.
With a bit of time left we wandered around the city a bit before heading for the airport.

roslyn1234 Is Emily the woman that first painted Indian totems and artefacts? Think I read about her .
