Douglas Brown's Travels
Today's ride was 190km and we travelled via Cetinje, Lovecen NP, Kotor and Herceg Novi. Our riding group was reduced to 6 bikes as all the unwell members of our group chose to follow Jasa in the van directly to Dubrovnik. The weather was good today and our wet weather gear rode in ou top box all day. This was an excellent days riding with some technical bits and some lovely flowing faster sections. Ou coffee stop today was at Lovcen National Park were you can take the 400 odd steps up to Njegos Mausoleum. A lot of reconstruction and renovation is taking place on Mount Lovcen and we were lucky we could take our bikes to the top. The road was closed to all other traffic and outer visitors had to park and walk several hundred meters up the road to the The prettiest town on today's ride was Kotor which was our lunch stop with its fortified wall around the town and a main entrance gate. It is a fine example of Medieval architecture and sitting in this town surrounded be 2500 year old buildings and cobbled streets, brought a wonderfully atmosphere to our lunch. The town of Kotor from outside the wall. No vehicles are allowed in the old town and entrance to the town is by foot through the doorway in the centre of the picture We arrived in Dubrovnik after some spectacular views as we descended to the city. It is a very busy city and the traffic was heavy as we approached the city. Our hotel for tithe night was the More Hotel, which is a spectacular hotel built over seven levels against the side of a hill leading down to the sea. I was fortunate enough to get a top floor room with a magnificent view to the sea.
