Day 27 Another 8am start to travel our 292km to Lech, Austria. We started the day by climbing back over Passo di Gardena, heading West to St. Ulrich. We then used the motorway to head North East passed Brixen then onto Sterzing.before leaving Itally via the 2474 meter, Timmelsjoch Pass. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timmels joch This pass was first planned in 1859 however it was not completed and opened to traffic until 1967. Often called the "Secret Pass" because it is little used due to there being two lower passes 25km South of it. At the top of the climb is a very modern concrete structure cantilevered out of the side of the mountain. This structure contains pictures and text describing the construction of this pass. A tourist attraction and Wonderfull motorcycling road, this pass is only opened seasonally and a toll of 12 euro is charged to traverse the Pass. Now in Austria we headed North West to Langenfeld and then on to Imst. The Austrian countryside is like riding through a post card and you need you head on a swivel to keep up with all the sights you pass by. The Austrian's pay great attention to presentation with decorated houses surrounded by well manicured cottage gardens. Heading West we traversed Hahntennjoch Pass, 1894 meters. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hahnten njoch Once again this pass was heavily travelled by cyclists and motorcyclists. Some of the Motorcyclist decked out in full leathers, knee and elbow sliders. They looked like they belonged on the race track.
