Game day, Sunday! I was excited for today. I bought a ticket to the FBC Melgar futbol game. There were a few options ranging from $3 to $14, so I splurged baby. Gimme a box seat!
I headed to the stadium and in and they were checking bags for plastic bottles. I throught it was weird. I was offered a ziplock bag to pour my water into to keep. That was weirder. I had NO idea how that was going to work, so I tossed my bottle and entered. Although my ticked had an actual seat printed on it, I was soon shown that you find an empty seat, not YOUR seat. Alas, I found a seat in the shade and made it for kick off.
Holy s***, there was some drama. Literally every two minutes some player went flailing Hollywood style looking for a call. Both teams did it, and it was actually quite laughable. He soccer was fast and I realized how use to watching women I was.
Halftime came and as the refs were leaving the field, one of them got nailed in the head by a launched water bottle. I was center stands about 10 rows back. It happened right in front if me. The police surrounded the refs with those plastic riot shields and escorted then through another exit. Cameras and news people were surrounding them. Halftime came to an end and both teams emerged and the 4 refs. Everyone was taking around me, but I couldn't understand a thing.
About 10 minutes into the second half, the was a foul call that happened on he other half of the field. There was some scuffle, the main ref grabbed the ball and called the game off. The refs all huddled on the center circle with a few more officials who were again surrounded by police in riot gear. The teams shuck hands headed off the field. The croud got up and started exiting the field. When I got out of the stadium, I saw a police chase (horseback, mind you) of about 10 horses galloping down the road. I kind of felt like I was in a dream.
That afternoon I went to the movies and saw the new movie, Interns. It had Spanish subtitles and it was hilarious. I do think a lot of it got lost in translation for the spanish speakers as evidence of me laughing solo (a lot of the time...) at every other line Vince Vaughn had.
After the movies, I went to the bus station to catch my overnight bus to Ica. 11 hours and two benedryl later, I had been transported to the desert!
