Arequipa, the White City, is great! I arrived at night to the Plaza de Armas surrounded by columns and churches. Everything was lot up making it a beautiful sight. There was a perfect single room at the first hostal I stopped in for the winning price of $13 a night. Clean, and airy, my room even has a huge view of the city and the nearby snow capped volcano, El Misty.
I spent my first day in Arequipa doing ummmm, wellll, pretty much NOTHING. I did manage to fall down a flight of stone hostal steps, luckily not to my death. (Side note... Everything in this city is slippery. She streets are smooth cobblestones and all the stairs are marble. I now take stairs like a Grandma and probably catch some glances.) Anyway, I spent the day walking around downtown, eating, reading my book and generally moving like a slug. It was nice. I met Mark and Sarah for drinks and dinner. Whiskey for drinks and $3 lasagna for dinner. My kind of night.
Today I signed up for a private 4 course cooking Peruvian Lesson (the last course is making Pisco Sours...) I will PAY GREAT attention so I can wow you all with my Peruvian mixology skillz when I get home. Wish me luck.
