We are actually staying with my cousin in Romford and seeing lots of things, but this photo is of the cloisters around Canterbury Cathedral. We have also explored Greenwich, with its Royal Observatory and Maritime museum, Queen's Chapel and Painted room, and then happened upon the Thames underpass walkway, so we of course had to do that too. Canterbury was an amazing place, and whilst the cathedral was impressive, the alms house that provided a place for the poor to stay whilst on pilgrimage, and still provides care for a small number of aged people, was a bit more poignant really.
We have also been to Framlingham, Beccles and Bungay, places that feature in my extended family tree. And we have been to Southend on Sea, which is one of those much parodied beachside resorts, full of establishments called "Las Vegas"and "New York", but Worth a trip for the experience. At Shoeburyness we saw some kite surfers in action, way out beyond the tidal zone, from which the sea had retreated. They were magic as they seemed to weave between and around each other.
Yesterday was amazing - our host threw a party for us, and invited a collection of Abbott cousins, descended from the brothers Montague, Samuel and Ambrose Abbott. And there were 6 of us. We are quite spread across the world - America, UK, Australia, South Africa.....quite amazing and although we may never all be together in the one place again, we did manage it yesterday!
