A final wander through the area the Clark/Harrington families came from before they headed for London. Firstly to Coggeshall where there was an amazingly intact house from the 1500s belonging originally to Mr Paycocke. Amazingly detailed carvings and all higgledly piggledly rooms and stairs with a delightful garden. There was also an enormous barn, or Grange, from the 12th century, preserved and restored. It was a winnowing barn originally. Then we finished off the day, and this leg of the journey, with a trip to Melford Hall, just because it was there. Lots of naval links - one of the Parkers was Nelson's Commander. Beatrix Potter was a cousin of one of the Parker brides, and visited often, sometimes setting her tales in the grounds. The fish pond in the walled garden was where Jeremy Fisher went fishing. And the place card was created by Beatrix Potter during one if her visits. A beautiful day - 20 degrees, sunny and just a beautiful part of the world. Lots of sheep and lambs in the green, green fields. A lovely day to farewell this corner of England.
