My trip from Caye Caulker to Tulum was rather uneventful. Except that the 10:30 bus to Chetumal left at 10:10 and so when I got back from the Internet cafe at 10:15 it was gone. But I got upgraded to a 1st class bus that left at 12:00. So not too painful at all. It was a long trip to the border and across and I eventually got to catch a 18:00 bus from Chetumal to Tulum. This bus took another 4 hours to get there. I happened to meet 2 french guys at Chetumal, (who spoke English) who recommended a place called Papaya Playa. Its a place on the beach at Tulum. So I decided to check it out. I`m staying in a small reed & wood cabanna and its wonderful. It has a double bed with a mosquito net over it and thats it. The Weather has been rainy most of the time I have been here, so not too good. My cabanna had a leak in the roof, but luckily I got them to fix that before the real rain started last night.
Yesterday I went to the Mayan ruins along the coast. I joined a few hundered American tourists doing the same thing though. The ruins were cool but nothing as impressive as Tikal. But their position on the cliffs overlooking the sea does make for impressive views. It was a pretty hot day. Probably over 30C and high humidity. Afterwards I had to go for a swim in the sea which was nice to cool off in. Then the rain started and has been raining off and on for 3 days. Â

I went and did some diving in the Cenotes today. I did 2 dives. The Cenotes are underwater caverns and caves. I stayed in the caverns and saw some awesome stalactite and stalacmite formations. It was soooo awesome being able to float around between all the formations. The second dive took us a little deeper to 13m in the Bat Cave. The formations here were plentiful. We also got to swim where the salt water and fresh water meet and it gets wierd. The water looks like it gets blurry. Anyway the cool thing about this diving is that you don`t have to clean your gear afterwards. Apparently they filmed the movie "The Cave" here. I will have to go and check it out now. Maybe its best that I have already dived there. I have added some photos from their site just to give you an idea of how it was. I did not take an underwater camera.Â
Well tomorrow I catch a shuttle to the airport. I decided that I should put my bag in a locker and then go into Cancun. The plan is to go to the floating casino for dinner and for a bit of gambling. Will see how my poker skills have developed.(Although I still don`t know if they have a casino yet..... Nothing on the net!)
