Anna & I spent a day in Vancouver before she had to fly back to Paris. I like Vancouver, but did not have enough time to really get to know it. I had booked accomodation in Whistler for 2.5 weeks. I was going to ride my new bike till I no longer could. I took the Whistler Mountaineer train up from Vancouver and loved the spectacular scenery. On arrival I took a cab to my accomodation. It took a little while before I figured out how to get access to my flat. After about 3 hours running around I got access. It was a great self catering flat. They did not allow bikes in the room, but I gave that rule a miss. There was no way I was leaving my bike in the basement garage. I went to some of the local bike shops to get some idea of the trails in the area. Besides the bike park there is a huge network of trails. Whistler would make an awesome bike holiday for a group of us to do. Everyday I would get out and go riding. The days when my legs were tired I would get a mountain bike pass and take the chair lift up. The bike park is awesome. Most guys have very big bikes, wear full body armour & full face helmets. Most of the guys & girls are also very talented and its amazing to see the kinda of jumps and drops they can do. There are blue, black and double black runs. I never got to do the double black runs. Too scared too. But I loved all the other runs. The second week there they had the Kona Crankworx 2007 competition. I got to see so many talented mountain bikers. From trials, slalom, downhill to slopestyle riding it was all there that week. Its amazing to see the tricks that these guys get up to. They also had different bands in the evening for partying. I rode a number of the cross country trails in the area. The sheer variety of the trails is awesome. It was with sadness that I left Whistler as this was the end of my years travel. Although it felt like it had gone quickly I have to say it was an awesome experience.
