So the time was ripe for me to leave Gillette after I had been continuously pushing the date back for weeks. So eventually Bailey had got herself organised with work and what not , to come with me to Nashville for a week. So we bought our bus tickets (yes bus tickets) and started our epic treck down south 'ya'll'. The bus ride from Gillette to Nashville in total is 36 hours, but we were optimistic as to how it was going to turn out. On our longest stretch, I was sat right at the back of the bus next to the toilets, so I had to move everytime someone wanted to use it. On top of that, there was a lady with a baby sitting right in front of me. That leg of the trip was 17 hours, and it felt like it. It was rediculous. So we eventually got to the 'country music capital' of the world and what a relief it was.
The hostel we stayed was nice, altough my first impression was that it wasn't going to be that amazing. It turned out that the people that worked there were pretty cool, and our room-mates also turned out to be good. At one point we had 4 aussie girls staying with us which made it feel more like home than Nashville.
I think the first cool things Bailey and I did was go eat at the Hard Rock Cafe down on Broadway. We got our own little booth and had all this memorabilia around to keep our eyes entertained. On the main strip downtown on Broadway, there are so many little bars with country tunes being pumped out throughout the day. At any time of the day you could walk in to see some good ol'e country bumkin music. Its a really 'happening' part of town you could say. We also went to a fancy dress store one day on our walk down, and as you can see by the pictures, it provided us with hours of entertainment. Another day trip we did was down to the Opry Mills Mall. We didn't really have much of a purpose for going there, except to check it out and for something to do. It turned out that Bailey was 'shop' mode that day, so I was dragged through a few clothing stores approving and disapproving outfits. And then when it came to me having to get shoes for myself, she couldn't spend more that 5 seconds helping me before she was out at the womans shoe section looking for something for herself. How rude.
So our friend Kara from Gillette goes to school in Nashville and had given us the numbers of a few of her friends for us to call while we were there, which we did. One of the nights, a couple of them had a show on which they invited us to. It turned out that they were
amazing and afterwards we went out with them for a bite to eat and some drinks where we got to know them a little better. A couple nights after that we went to another show that one of their friends was paying at, which again, was awesome. We were there for a little while before we headed over to some studio where Bret had to lay down a vocal track for someone. So we get there, and it turns out that this studio we're at (Studio B) has had the likes of Elvis, Dolly Parton, and Roy Orbison record there. It was flippin sweet!!!! We also got to watch the guys record, and let me tell ya, they have some stellar voices. Amazing!!! So that whole experience really got me loving Nashville even more.
Nearing the end of our days there, we headed out to the Country Music Hall of Fame. I'm not really a country fan, so I wasn't that enthused, but its just one of those things you've gotta do. There was some pretty cool stuff to see there, like Elvis's pimped out cadilac, and a bunch of cool memorabilia. They also had this massive wall fully covered with gold/platinum/silver records which was something to see. I Bailey really enjoyed it, as she's a little more into the country thing than I am.
Bailey and I also wrote a country song while we were there which rocks the socks off anyone wearing socks. The lyrics are they key to this song titled, "My lifes not sad enough for a country song". Classic.
So Bailey and I parted ways at the bus station which was a pretty sad eventas I made my way to see Warren in Lexington Kentucky, and she made that epic 36 hour journey back home to Wyoming.
