Nha Trang is a beach resort - a complete and welcome contrast to the hustle and bustle of Saigon. We visited the local mineral mud baths, and paid extra to get a 'double tub' to ourselves rather than bathe with the common herd. The advertisements hilariously promised that it would be 'doubly exciting' and showed a picture of a sexy young Vietnamese couple cavorting in a tub. No sooner had we got settled into our tepid mix of brown gunk than up popped the resort photographer keen to capture us in our moments of mud-dom. All around us trendy young couples slithered, pouted and posed for the cameraman. The best we could manage was some sort of Morecambe and Wise routine of me pouring mud over Brian's head which, as he tersely pointed out whilst spitting out mud, was neither sexy nor particularly funny. The resulting photos are rather hilarious, but unfortunately will not be available for general view for another 50 years until the Official Secrets Act allows them to be released for general publication.
The next day we went on a boat trip for the day and had a short trip in a coracle boat, which is fun but precarious; rather like boating in a gigantic soup bowl. We also went snorkelling but the sea was so choppy there was nothing to see. In the evening we took a cable car ride to VinPearlLand (allegedly the longest cable car ride in Asia) - it's a poor man's Disneyland with the cleanest toilets ever encountered in Asia. They were so spotless I had to go twice to maximize the opportunity. Bri intercepted me on the third trip, when I was going back for photographic evidence, advising me that probably no one else in the world was as interested in the state of the toilets, and they certainly wouldn't need hard proof. He could have a point. That's the drawback of spending too much time in Asia - you become overly obsessed with the state of the facilities.
