Today was a designated driving day as we left the sunny Pembrokeshire coastline and headed north along the Coastal Way to the rugged mountains of North Wales and the Snowdonia National park.
After being blessed with sunshine yesterday, today was dominated by rain but thankfully it eased off enough for us to still enjoy our stops.
We decided to bypass St David’s and head to Cwmtydu Cove which is known for Seal sightings. The drive down was pretty hair raising: a very narrow lane, complete with steep descents and super tight switchbacks. Andy’s driving was amazing and also shows he has nerves of steel! I was shaking by the time we got to the bottom! Once there we found a stunning little cove with caves to explore and rocks to climb - which the kids loved. We did a short walk up to the top and were met with stunning views along the coastal path. No seals, sadly. We could easily have stayed longer but we still had a long drive ahead, so after buying the kids some more Welsh cakes, we were back on the road. Thankfully, there was a road more suitable for giant Motorhomes to get out again!
Next stop was Aberaeron where we planned to have lunch. It was only 20 minutes away but due to an accident and a huge detour, it probably took us closer to two hours. The kids and we were hungry so we went straight for some lunch in the Cellar - reputed to be the best place for food in the town. We grabbed the last table before the kitchen closed and had a delicious meal!
Aberaeron is a fishing village known for its candy coloured buildings. I’d always thought of Welsh houses as being grey but here were all the colours. It was so cheerful and we had a lovely time wondering around. We also got what is currently the best ice cream of the holiday so far at Angelato’s.
After the huge detour/traffic jam, we decided to head straight on to Snowdonia without stopping again. After a full day of driving we reached our next spot and we’re reunited with some friends who are going to hang out with us for a few days.

Mum How impressive, you manage to cover lots of miles in short time , you have to start a reward scheme of miles drive . Enjoy your adventures xxx😍
Amelia You don’t need to go to Wales to see seals - we see them every week outside the sailing club! Sounds like you are having lots of fun.
