We are camped at Renner Springs tonight, which is a roadhouse/hotel in the middle of nowhere, with a small campground attached. It’s right by the highway, so pretty noisy when a road train rumbles past. Or when the geese get excited. There is a series of ponds adjacent to the campground, which is at least partially fed by a large windmill, so there is some doubt about whether a natural spring exists here. Anyway, the ponds and windmill were quite picturesque in the late afternoon light.
Paid another visit to Newcastle Waters this afternoon, and very worthwhile it was too: got great pics of a White-necked Heron (lifer) and a juvenile Nankeen Night Heron, who was out in the open and let me approach to less than ten metres. The place is just swarming with water birds ... a little taste of what it must be like at Kakadu.

Gavin Actually, on our Kakadu trip, the best bird place we saw was Fogg Dam, which is on the way from Darwin, but not in Kakadu (which was all great of course).
