Yesterday Granny Beryl took us out for a drive around Durban. We went to Moses Mabhida Stadium which was built for the 2010 Football World Cup ©. One guy tried very hard to get us to do the 'Big Rush' which is a giant swing that goes across the stadium. His selling technique of showing us a video completely backfired and despite being adrenalin-loving kiwis we decided to say a big NO THANK YOU!
We did brave it up the sky car which took us to the top of the breadbasket handle thingee. It had fantastic panoramic views of the city. After that we went for a drive along the beach and into part of the city. It was really weird to see a derelict building right next to a flash new apartment building. In fact it was a bit sad to see how many lovely buildings had been left to ruin. All along the 'golden mile' (as the beach road is called) there were hawkers selling their souvenirs ... which were exactly the same as the next guy, and the next one, and the next one ...
Today's escapade was at uShaka. We spent the morning at the aquarium and watching seal and dolphin shows. It was very cool to see as it would never be allowed in NZ (because of the stinkin' greenies says Brett). We went to the waterslide part of uShaka in the afternoon and went down Africa's highest waterslide. Yep, even me who is petrified of heights ... let's just say I sounded a lot like a little girl on my way down
On a completely different topic - Aunty Faye has made it her mission to introduce me to all African fruits. I've now tried guava, fresh passion fruit (which is way nicer than the pulp you buy in NZ) and pawpaw for the first time. It was good that I tried them this morning because when we returned this afternoon from uShaka, Aunty Faye told us that the monkeys had broken in and helped themselves to the leftovers. On the way home we even saw a lady being chased by a monkey which wanted her bread rolls.
Check out the Durban photo album for some new photos.
