Another travel day today - we drove from Florence to Rome via Siena. Before leaving Florence we checked the weather forecast for Rome ... 38 degrees!! We'd kinda had enough of constantly being hot, so we slightly upgraded thanks to lastminute.com for our Rome stay.
"On the road again, going places that we'd never been" ... while being regularly tooted at and passed on corners at alarming speeds by the Italians :) Ahh, great fun. We took the scenic route again so we could enjoy the Tuscan countryside. Despite the temperature it's actually nearly autumn so unfortunately we missed all the sunflowers. We saw fields and fields of dying sunflowers so I'm sure it would have looked stunning a couple of months ago.
We stopped in at Siena to stretch our legs, have a look around and lunch. It is a rather red city! It was amazing how all the buildings in the city centre seemed to be the same shade of red. We were terrible tourists - taking a few snaps then back on the road.
Eventually we arrived in Rome at our 4 star hotel :) Yep, just a slight upgrade from the camping eh. Clearly they hadn't quite thought through letting some dirty campers stay in their swanky hotel. Upon arriving in our room we used the spa bath for a bit of washing of clothes and sheets. Hee hee! That evening we read up a bit on Rome to prepare for the next day and enjoyed a quiet night's sleep.
Next blog will be more exciting ... I promise :)
