Today we packed up in Paris and drove for the city of Luxembourg, keeping our fingers crossed that we had enough petrol to make it across the border. Thankfully we did just make it and we enjoyed saving about 20c per litre (but still ignoring its actual price in NZD!).
I felt a bit lost when registering at the camping ground as I wasn't sure whether I should be speaking French or English. I tried French and after the guy heard me talk to Rebecca, he switched to English and I picked up a German accent, meaning that he speaks at least three languages fluently. It's definitely a challenge for us native English speakers who can usually only manage one (or one and a quarter)!
We headed into the city to have a look around and our first impressions were of a small but very well run place, with the roads smooth and flowing, the drivers courteous, council-run wifi everywhere and the pedestrian areas not only clean, but spotless. Surprisingly, Luxembourg was pretty too with lots of green in the valley that runs through the city and the old buildings nicely maintained and looking fabulous.
We've only one complaint about Luxembourg: the tourist maps of the city say nothing about the topography! There were quite a few steep hills we had to climb and we were still recovering from our stair extravaganza in Paris but we made it anyway. All in the name of exercise, hey.
After a quick pint of the local brew (not bad at all) we went home, cooked ourselves dinner in the dark, prepared a blog entry and called it a night.
