Off to the Everglades today! Our day tour wasn't picking us up until a reasonable 9.40 & they were there early to take us to our smaller bus for the drive out of Miami. On the way there was a rather loud commentary with some good view of the city & port as we left to the west. Once at the Everglades Safari Park we were directed to airboats for a half hour zoom over the water & grasses. We saw some alligators, the first swimming across in front of the boat & the others lazing by the edges towards the end of the ride, just after the skies opened & drenched us in a 5 min downpour. Slightly damp we then watched the short show where the 'ranger' got close and personal with some captive alligators. Afterwards we wandered along the boardwalks that did a small 10 min loop but didn't see any more alligators. Instead we went to eat them in the cafe trying the overpriced $9 gator bites which inevitably tasted like chicken. Half a tasty pulled pork roll each & it was time to pile back onto the bus to return to Miami & change to our afternoon cruise around the celebrities homes & Biscayne bay. We had around 45 mins at the Bayside shopping centre before our boat left so stopped for a drink then boarded to head out through the various waterways of Miami & past the opulent over the top homes of the rich & famous. Afterwards we looped past the industrial part of the bay and then returned to the shopping centre to get our return transfer to the hotel. Having had a smaller lunch we were hungry a little earlier so went to find some Mexican. A taster plate of quesadillas, fried tacos, wings & guacamole plus some tacos each & we were carrying Mexican babies back to the hotel to get organised for our cruise tomorrow!
