It's raining still so we leisurely took our 3CUC breakfast which had rather weak coffee then set off to find someone to do some fixing. Firstly we found the watch fixer in a little glass fronted shop with each 'tradie' sitting at a small wooden desk/work space. Firstly the watchmaker said the whole mechanism of mum's watch needed changing but after some waiting it turned out some water had got in a small crack so he managed to get it working for only 3CUC. Mum then paid 1CUC to another 'desk' to straighten her glasses & we were then pointed around the block to another similar shop with a number of shoe makers. Mum's thong/sandal had come apart so they pulled it apart completely, ground off the old glue then put a whole lot more glue on & squeezed them back together. This guy saw the tourist dollar & charged 5CUC which was a bit rich when the sign said 3 for a resole. It was time for coffee so we returned to yesterday's restaurant for the usual bad service but good coffee. Continuing our exploration with the rain having eased a little we continued to the Plaza Vieja, the main square then into San Fransisco of Asiss square, via the usual long line at the bank (getting to the counter just before they closed!) to change the last of our money. The rain got heavier so we returned to the casa to dry out before we shared lunch with Maria & her mum as we had been invited to join them thanks to mum's 'hand-y' work. We had
Ground turkey, like a Bolognese with beans, rice & salad. Refuelled & dry we this time took our jackets & went to see the fort near cathedral square although we could only walk around it then past the garden like Plaza De Armas & down to the main square again for a drink at Factoria which was a microbrewery. I had a very malty dark beer (it was light, medium or dark as the choices). The perfume shop Habana 1791 was open on our way back so I stopped & picked out a couple of bottles, a little pricey at 18CUC but a good souvenir that I can actually use. Around the corner we stayed dry & used the intermittent Internet at a hotel as there were no public spots in the old town & then wandered back to a restaurant we had seen that had a Flamenco show. It was a little pricey but we only wanted something small for dinner plus the flamenco was excellent. Very sharp & strong with their legs moving so fast. Cheap entertainment in the scheme of things.
