Today we were heading for the mountains, more specifically Keystone ski resort. Sean was going snowboarding with a friend and the girls (us 3) were going to try snowshoeing! It was nearly 2 hours of driving so we arrived just before noon, with a very sudden stop as we plowed into a snow pile on the side of the road to avoid a driver who didn't indicate (luckily we were pulled out in 15kins with no damage) and then finally dropped off the boys & then headed for the Nordic centre to hire some snow shoes. Luckily the hire included toasty warm boots to go in our weird tennis racquet snow shoes so once we got ourselves all strapped into them off we set. Jess had never tried it before either so we all tentatively started up the snowy hill behind the clubhouse on the trail. It was surprisingly easy to walk & if it hasn't have been for the altitude we would have set a cracking pace. The trail undulated & cut through small grouping of pine trees covered in snow so it was very picturesque. Stopping for a view over the ski village, a quick snow ball fight & mum doing a snow angel the trail took about an hour fifteen with the snow starting to get a little heavier as we approached the club house. Once we returned our snow shoes & paid our $36 (rental & trail fee) we stopped in the cafe area for a bowl of soup each (I had green chilli) and then stopped by the chocolate village display at one of the resorts before picking up the guys from their snowboarding. The snow was a little heavier now & the traffic building a lot. It took us about 3 hours to get to Idaho Springs, a town near the bottom of the mountain for a well deserved dinner of pizza. I shared a gluten free pizza with mum so didn't get to try the 'mountain pie' at Beau Jo's which was like a mega deep crust. Finally it was back to Denver & we were all happy to chill out after a big day of snowy adventures.
