Our last port of call today was Georgetown on Grand Cayman Island. Luckily despite the weather forecast of passing showers the sun was out as we caught the tender to shore. We didn't have any specific plans so started off with a wander around town which got frustrating quickly as there were 5 cruise ships here today so the streets were crazy busy. The town was really just a stretch of jewellery & tacky souvenir shops so within an hour we had done a complete loop. We decided to take a mini bus tour for $20USD of which there were plenty of people spruiking at the tender terminals. In our bus of 11 we did a slow lap through town then headed north past the governors house, the back of the resorts along 7 mile beach, past the oldest house in the caymans until we reached Hell. Hell, besides a lot of tourists, had a post office behind which was an area of limestone which had weathered to become craggy rock formations as you would expect hell to be. A quick photo stop then we were off to the turtle farm & dolphin centre which were opposite each other on the north tip of the island. We managed to see the starring animals from each for free. The turtle farm seemed to be just a big pond of turtles which you could see from the gift shop & the Dolphins Centre we were able to walk in & see people being pushed around on boogey boards etc. On the way back towards town the van stopped at a beach club so we decided to jump out now rather than coming back for some beach time. It cost $2 to get in & had a bar with a crowded pool behind plus bathrooms/changing rooms. It cost a lot extra to get a beach chair or umbrella so being lunch time we found a shady table near the bar & ordered a pizza to share and Sean got a beer. The pizza was good, with a thicker dough & more toppings than the ship pizza but the staff really tried to move you along bringing the bill when we had barely finished eating & Sean still had half a beer. We weren't giving up the seat though as Sean needed somewhere to relax while I went for a swim in the beautiful turquoise water with its soft white sand below. Pity about the hundreds of people I had to share the beach with! After a couple of hours we piled into a squished minivan taxi for the short ride back to town where we had a pirate beer & used their wifi before getting a tender back to the ship around 3.30pm. The other 4 cruise ships had all departed by the time we pulled up anchor around 5pm as we watched the ship pivot around & depart to open seas from our balcony. We had a drink at the Gastrobar before the 7pm show which was an Cirque de Soleil with singing and dancing performance about the journey through the seasons. After the show it was just about time for dinner, tonight I tried a chilled strawberry soup which was just like strawberry juice. We turned in once again straight after dinner ready for a sleep in on our last sea day tomorrow.
