Today was officially RAG. Rough as Guts. It was a rocky morning, we were running 'late' due to weather and did not make it to Astrolabe Island which was our target for today. It eventually became an officially gazetted Relax Day. Too windy, too swelly and too little chance of a successful landing as the swell was 2-4 metres and heading straight up and over the proposed landing sites - they decided it was not worth continuing on and trying, just to fail and have wasted the travelling time. Kayak groups J and K have been cancelled again and it's getting to the pointy end for them with only 2 days of exploring left before we hit the Drake again. Hopefully the Drake doesn't hit me too much this time through. We were working on an afternoon snooze when the call came out for humpbacks on the starboard bow - wow! Still gets us out of bed. Very foggy, a few hardy penguins out on the hunt and not much else to see. We did a bit of pre-pre-packing on the basis I might not bee in the mood when we go through the 48 hour spin cycle over the Drake. The word is we're heading to the Weddell Sea on the eastern side of the Antarctic peninsula and will be circumnavigating James Ross island - A first for not only our ship, but also for the Hurtigruten company - We are explorers!
