Murray River Day 1 - somewhere on the Murray River, Victoria
I am not happy about this trip. This was supposed to be my weekend off - the first since I started Uni and the last until June. But no. I figured out that my OLATS paddle trip for next weekend is at the same as Safety's First Aid course training. I was hoping to just skip the paddle trip, but after much pleading Munge wouldn't let me. So yesterday at 4pm he told me that I had to go on this week's paddle trip, which was leaving the next morning at 8am. Sweet. I have nothing ready, no food, not the proper equipment, nothings packed, and I had to leave the next morning. I had mentally prepped myself in having this weekend off since last Sunday. I also have an Environmental Interpretation paper (which is 50% of my grade) due on Friday, so hopefully I'll be able to get an extension since I'll be on a trip.
Last night I scrambled to get food, and thankfully I had enough from the last trip to survive this trip. Today was good though. The drive was relaxing, slept through most of it in part because I'm still sick from whatever I picked up after Alps Trip. I'm in a good group from what I can tell thus far, the smallest of all the groups. Our leader is pretty cool and laid back. He uses this phrase whenever something goes right - "Hello Australia!" - I love it. I "learned" how to tie a few knots - a figure 8 knot, the trucker, and this bunny one (it's not actually called a bunny, it just has a bunny story to explain how to do it). I say "learned" because I really can't remember how to tie them right now, but I was shown. My group has an extra canoe so Nina and I got to fly solo. I actually really enjoyed paddling solo because I got lots of practice in and I don't have to worry about a compensating for a partner.
