After our long lazy and late dinner last night, no one was in a hurry to make a start today. Eventually the warmth of the Tuscan sun filled the room and soon enough we were back at Il Campo for a Coffee and brioche breakfast in that same glowing sun. Last nights laziness spilled into our morning, Sienna just puts the mental brakes on everything, very enchanting.
Eventually though then pull of Pisa had us on the road. An hour and some change later we were pulling up a few blocks from the piazza. Both yesterday at Piazzale Michelangelo and today in Pisa we found out about the African equivalent of those parking systems we have everywhere now. With limited parking the street sellers camp in the spots and chaperone you down the street to the waiting spot, well worth a euro or two. Yesterday's guy placed one of the selfie sticks he was selling just far enough in front of the spot that I nearly hit it as I was reversing in, either I hit it or got a kid to move it, either way I owed him money. The Pisa crew were smooth operators though, "here's your spot sir" (2eu), "sir sir, come back you need a ticket" (2eu) walk 300 meters down the road, realise the ticket machine needs the numbers from your plate, start heading back but them "yours is 760 sir". (2eu) I wanted to pay him just on his ingenuity.
The stone work both on the tower and the Duomo is a sight to see, crisp white in that bright Tuscan sun, you can imagine how brilliant many of these Italian basilica and duomo must sparkle in the earlier (or restored) lives. We had Pizza in Pisa, had to be done right? Then a stroll around the majestic square before heading to Rapallo.
We're finally on the coast and only now working out how much we were missing it. We squeezed in a round of washing before walking the promenade and settling in for dinner and sunset over the harbour. There's a beach club here and a train station calling us to Cinque Terre, we spent dinner debating which has a stronger pull on us for tomorrow.
