Brett & Lindsay's Travels
We're now wraping up our second day in Vienna. Yesterday we arrived, checked in and headed for downtown. I've never seen so many classical buildings in one city anywhere. I suppose a lot of it was spawned from the riches of the 600 year Hapsburg dynasty that surrounds the town. We saw the Stilshburg cathedral and Stephansdome (sp) cathedral, and also passed by the Vienna University ( I'm not sure if that is where Chris studied) We visited the sprawling Hapsburg winter palace residences and again got suckered into an overpriced tour, this time in the form of a horse and carraige. There is a unique blend here of modernity (sp) mixed with the old culture and heritage.
This morning we went and saw the Lipinzanner Horses practice. It wall a bit melodramatic. For the whole hour we watched them they only did a few tricks. They mostly just trotted around for excercise I think. Tonight we got tickets to a concert where a full orchestra is getting all dressed up in the period dress and playing mozart in the most famous music hall here in town to commemorate Mozart's anniversary. I don't know what anniversary, but they worship him here either way. A german told me a few weeks ago that Austrians get frustrated because the three most well know people from Austria are Mozart, Hitler and Governor Schwarzaneggar. Anyway, we'll post pics when we can. We're off tomorrow morning for the opening ceremonies of Oktoberfest in Munich. Stay Classy USA!!
