Brenton Kovacs's Travels
Having to drag myself out of bed at 4.15am wasnt the easiest thing to do. The joy of a 6am flight. We left Adelaide an time and arrived at Sydney on time. Qantas gave us 1 hour to get from the Domestic to the international terminal. We made it with minutes to spare. As we arrived at the gate Final Boarding was being called.
The flight to Shanghai was very smooth and quiet. Most of the people on board were Chinese. The plane was only half full, so we could spread out. The Chinese people pulled the window shutters down and went to sleep, so it was very quiet, even the babies did not cry.
Could not believe the size of the Shanghai Airport, it is massive and ever so clean. Clearing immigration was fast, about 10 minutes. Our bags were already off the plane, and we headed outside for the hotel shuttle.
The Qube Hotel is about a 15 minute ride away. The Hotel is very new and modern. Our room is very large and quiet. After dropping off our bags we head into the shopping mall next to the hotel. Its not very busy with only a handful of people walking around. We find a nice Thai restaurant where the menu has pictures and english text. The food is really good, and surprisingly cheap. 10 aussie dollars for a huge plate of fried rice and a bowl of stir fried chicken and vegetable with barbecue sauce.
After a good nights sleep we head to the hotels restaurant for a smorgasbord style breakfast. Lots on offer and all rather tasty. They had more waiting staff than customers.
The view from our room on the 16th floor reveals a lot of high density living. Traffic is very light and lots of people riding electric scooters. No helmets of course!
We will be leaving the hotel shortley for our 11.30 flight to Beijing
