Brenton Kovacs's Travels
After a great nights sleep we get ready to visit the Great wall at Mutianyu. Its about a 2 hour drive form the city. We have booked a local guide by the name of Kevin to take us to see the wall. He is charging me $90 for the transport in a mini bus, a driver and Kevin the tour guide.
The weather is not kind to us, as it is raining with thick fog. We leave the city and after an hour or so we actually start to see clouds as we leave the pollution behind. It rains for the entire drive, but as we arrive at Mutianya the rain stops. There are 2 ways to get to the wall, walk or cable car. We opt for the cable car as the path is wet and slippery.
The Great Wall is covered with thick fog, so not good for picture taking. Not too many tourists here which is why we chose this part of the wall to visit. The path along the wall is very steep in parts, and slippery. We see a few people falling down. We spend on hour walking along the Great wall before heading back to have some lunch. The weather was a let down, but not much we can do about it.
On the way back home Kevin take us to visit a Silk factory, a Tea tasting store and shop that makes Chinese hand crafts. All very interesting.
We also stop and visit the Beijing Olympic park, and a really quaint food street. Both of us had a great day, and Kevin was an excellent guide.
After tea we catch the subway to Olympic park for some the stadium light up. From our apartment it is 3 different subway trains to get there. All goes with catching the wrong one, and takes about 45 minutes. Their subway system is great and only costs 40 cents each. So cheap.
