Yep me again- Whatawee ( how are you?) You thought my post on Friday was the last for this trip as did I!
What a difference a day makes.
Friday night the weather worsened - howling SW winds battered the island. The house shook, trees bent , palm fronds flying , doors and windows rattling. After dinner with Puss and Pat headed for bed and prayed no trees would fall on house.
In the middle of the night I woke when a heavy lump fell on me - let out quite a yelp - was it a rat ( yep - they have rats) turned on light - Poppet the black cat had somehow found her way in and wanted to snuggle up. I obliged.
The day we woke to was wet, windy and very dreary. However, tidied the house, took rubbish to Waste Disposal Depot ( no rubbish collection) took last pics ( of wild seas) , last coffee at The Olive and check in at airport. ( you checkin - go away for 2 hours- and come back ready to board). So waiting at airport - winds really strong and there is an announcement that landing had been aborted. Story goes - pilot could not get all wheels on to runway due to strength of winds. Harry thought it all very exciting, David and Fiona were VERY concerned, and 2 hostees had white knuckles and went extremely pale. So - we can't leave, my kids on board can't land - so many travellers plans gone asunder. The flight headed to Auckland - but due to many passengers not having passports ( now Norfolk is "part" of Australia - they still don't know in what capacity) PP not required for travel to Norfolk- they could not stay in NZ!! So back to Brisbane arriving back around 11pm - having commenced at 11 am - 12 hours flight to no where!
Today - Sunday 23rd July - flights now rescheduled for this afternoon so crossing fingers. The day is much calmer, and sun peeking out.
I am ready to leave - need to play golf, get in to the garden and have coffee with the girls.
