So it turns out that 4th March (the full moon day of the 6th lunar month) is Makha Bucha Day - a day when Buddhists go to the temple to make special observances. That meant it was also a public holiday for office workers - explaining the shed loads of people travelling on the river boat - and the even greater number of people at the Grand Palace paying their respects! It's apparently illegal on public holidays to sell alcohol (something I can't see catching on for uk bank holidays!). However, we made the most of our mocktails pretending they were the real deal as we looked across the Bangkok skyline at one (of the many) rooftop bars!
The next day we had a leisurely morning before braving the 'escape room' - partly to escape the heat but also to relive my youth of watching Crystal Maze and reading poirot! You are taken into a room where there's various objects and locked cases and your job is to fit the clues together and solve the mystery within the hour to escape the room. We used the white board to jot down clues (channelling Humphrey in death in paradise!). You are allowed to get hints - needed after missing vital clues at the crime scene (I won't be giving up the day job to join police forensics just yet!)
In the evening, we went to see Beauty and the Beast musical, on tour from broadway. It was a mission to find (at the top of a large shopping centre) but once we were there we enjoyed the show - Ros was singing 'be our guest' for the rest of the evening!
