Started the day by exploring a collection of buildings we can see from our room. It looked like it might be a tourist spot & is in as far as it was part of old Bergen from the early days that has been restored. It’s mostly shops & artist shops now & I found a couple of watercolor prints done by the shop owner. Dave asked her to sign them & she did! They will be cute framed in a set for our travel wall. Today was our travel day to Bergen via Express boat. It was actually 2 boats, as we had to change after two hrs & they hadn’t mentioned that! It was a neat boat, a hydrofoil, moving @ about 32 knots, which seemed pretty fast. Great leather seats & a snack bar onboard. Started with a bit of sun (yay) & a lovely breakfast. European breakfast is a wonderful display. Today we had apple slices with yogurt, square “pancakes” with powdered sugar (Much richer than ours), & baked vegetable quiche. Then Dave added a fried egg, toast & jam, a croissant, etc. his kind of place! Coffee is great here - rich and strong (for me) but not dark roasted. Breakfast also includes a full salad & sandwich bar for those who choose....

Saturday started at 0-dark hundred (3am for Dave)! We had reserved a cab to the train station for 5am, a 5:40 am train to the airport, & a 7:20 flight. Because of timing we had to do an Oslo-Bergen-Sogndal triangle. The 737 out of Oslo switched to a little Dash 8 out of Bergen. It was a bit bumpy going up but not bad overall. Another gray day in Oslo, but rain held off, so we headed to the ferry docks. We sailed over to Bygdoy, (15min) home to the Norwegian Folk Museum, the Viking Ship Museum, Kon Tiki Museum, & a couple more we didn’t get to. The Folk Museum has a reconstructed stave church that was rescued & reassembled/restored. That & the other structures show the design needed to survive the weather for the early settlers.
