At last a place with a bath..!!!!!!...not that im unclean but i havent encountered a bath for ages...just showers..... cracking spot here with the sea about 15 yards away, the tide goes out and leaves a stoney sandy beach.
We look across the bay towards Dunedin. We are on the Otago Penisular, which has both ocean and bay sides to it...its long and thin and the road in and out clings to the sea,, one blink and the car would be over the edge....not good for me on the passenger side !
The Peninsular is like Jersey on one side, little bays, with pretty houses oozing with flowers, the other side of the penisular , the ocean is wild and windy with bays like Cornwall.
Staying here four days.
The house is cosy but modern, and a little sun trap.
The bay has albatros and penguins.
Dunedin is quite small. The train stations is very grand outside and in. I wanted to take a photo inside but we were swarmed by the cruise ship that had just arrived, coach loads of people.
Dunedin was tres Anglais, with a tad of scots too.We spent a couple of hours there, saw a huge wool shop, a huge haberdashers and a huge Singer sowing machine shop....was going to take a donw memory lane photo but thought theyd think i was mad!!
Out of the town there are some lovely sleepy seaside places, St Clair and Brighton we visited had great surf and fine yellow sand.
Lanach Castle is on this peninsula.
The only castle in New Zealand. One mans dream, he was William Lanach....
.built it for his wife....she died at 38, so he married then her sister......she died also at 38 and so he married a womand 37 years younger and she started an affiar with Wiliam Lanachs son........so William Lanach shot himself....... the son later killed himself too.......so the place had a history to it....It was rather spledid with such pretty gardens, and the house had such ornate ironwork.
Its been decent weather here sheltered from the wind and the sun is hot!
Our days are numbered now........only 4 more New Zeaand nights and off to Fiji......

Helen Abbott What an experience for you both! All sounds wonderful and the photos are amazing. Quite understand you feeling nostalgic for your childhood, Sue, when you see things from the past.
