Fri 22/08/14 Arrived at Riverview Top Tourist Park approx. 5pm. Setup and had intended going to supermarket, but we all too tired so kids allowed to choose dinner...Maccas it is. Only going to be a short stay this time, as we touristed through here on our way to Darwin.
Sat 23/08/14 Several loads of laundry took up the morning followed by grocery shopping and back to van for quick lunch before heading out to Top Didj Cultural Experience. Local indigenous tribesman, Manuel, plays a didjeridoo welcome, tells of his background and then teaches how to do your own 'raark' style painting....it's trickier than it looks! B did a short neck turtle, A did a long neck turtle, L did a gecko, M a barramundi & K a crocodile. Next we all had a turn at using the firesticks to light a fire...the 3 Dad's in the group all had success. Then onto spear throwing lessons using a woomera; great fun. Many orphaned wallaby joeys around for the kids to pet and two galleries on site to peruse. Manuel was a pleasure to meet and interesting to talk to...gave a good insight into how things used to be and how he sadly sees his culture disappearing as the 'black fella elders' fail to pass down knowledge to the next generation and the youth blend into the 'white fella way of life'.
Sun 24/08/14 Took a most relaxing morning dip in the Katherine Hot Springs behind c/van park. Great, bubbly waterfall pool...lots of fun. Then packed up and made the short 150km drive to Mataranka.
