Early start today as we wanted to see Penguins as we missed that in the Falklands, felt the Battlefield tour and Memorial/Remembrance was more important. Up for breakfast at 0630 then walked down the jetty and booked a tour with AAV& TPV tours to Porto Tombo a Penguin Colony of 600K penguins in breeding season. Bus eventually got going at 0830 and we arrived at Porto Tombo at 1145. So journey of approx 3& a quarter hours. They gave us an hour to see the penguins, Rhea & Lama which was enough. So we thought however there was a 15 to 20 min walk there and back!! All worth it in the end to see both adult and fledgling Magellan Penguins. Some facts we learnt today the colony is in habited from September to late March with the young being born around Mid to Late November. Penguins will walk up to 2Km from the sea to find a nesting site. Normally they lay 2 eggs and approx 20% survive to adulthood. Penguins can live for 20 years and always return to the site they were born. They spend April to September at sea. A new born penguin weighs approx 14 grammes but within 10 weeks they weigh 3 to 4 Kgs. Truly wonderful experience. Due to leave at 1pm, 4 Chinese passengers decided to turn up at 1.15pm, with a three and a half hour return journey and the ship due to sail at four we were sweating it. However the driver put us down on the jetty at 3.50pm!! Great day out. As tonight is Valentines Evening over 100 couples are having their vows renewed by Captain Leo. The guys in the Martini Bar are planning a 29 drink cocktail mix at 8pm, so guess where we will be. They did it, see my photos and video on FB. Lovely Valentines dinner in Blu with Lesley getting a red rose , not from me I might add but Milan. Who has been looking after us in Blu.
