Hello peeps!
Hope all is swell, I'm having a cracking time here in Thailand of course!!
So today was very interesting and fun filled if I may say so myself.
To start off, Tom and I decided to rent some mopeds! Neither of us have ridden one before but it was a classic, why not, It costs four pounds for a whole day kind of scenario!!! So with payment out of the way the little land lady showed us to the bikes, gave us a helmet and walked off. Great. Tom an I looks at each other thinking, oh s**t, what do we do!?!? After a good five minutes of looking at them trying to figure out how they worked we gave in and pretended they didn't work as they had no petrol and could they start them for us. After a 30 second demo we were both up and running! Quality! We couldn't quite believe it could all be this easy!
I was expecting these things to be really tame and very slow. By boy was I wrong. They hit about 120kph max (don't worry I only reached 90!) They accelerate much faster than cars which is helpful when pulling into a thick stream of traffic! No but the roads were surprising quiet to be honest! They were the best fun I've had in a long time! In Koh Samui there is a ring road all the way round the island (a bit like the m25 but more dangerous!) Anyhoo, the whole road is only about 65km all the way round so we thought we would stop and see some attractions!! We swiped a map from the front desk and we were off! Our first pit stop was the giant golden Buddha which was wicked! We stopped and had an ice cream by it at about 1.00 as it is very hot this time of day here!! Afterwards we moved on to Chaweng (the busiest street/beach in Thailand which was a 20 minute scooter ride away where we had some lunch and a look around. There was a McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Burger King which I couldn't believe!
Afterwards we headed off to see the much talked about waterfall called Namuang which was 80 metres high, it was very beautiful and lots of elephants doing treks and that kind of thing but it was very busy.
When we got to the top we met this American guy by himself who told us a fall called Hin Lad was much quieter and much better for swimming/ jumping off rocks!
That sounded awesome to us so we took his instructions and off we sped on our mopeds. What a waste of time that turned out to be! A 20 minute ride there to the base of an enormous hill/mountain where we thought we would find it. We started walking up this huge hill. (I say walk it was more of a trek) which was hard work. We thought it was close but after nearly half an hour we were tired and very hot and sweaty!! So we turned around in annoyance! They say the way down is always easier but it really wasn't. It was essentailly a jungle! Swarms of Mosquitos, snakes, lizards, the lot!!! So after we finally got to the bottom it was a half hour traffic dodging, crazy ride in the near dark back!
So that brings me to this point in time where I'm pretty damn hungry and need some food!!
Ciao for now!
