Spring Break Day 3—Brussels, Belgium
So we made it to Belgium without any problems which is kind of amazing. We got there pretty late but luckily we had already booked somewhere to stay online so we left the train station and made our way to the metro station to get to the hotel. I’ve come to realize that Holiday Inn’s in Europe are a gift from heaven. Really. It was so great to get to a nice hotel where we didn’t have to lock everything up to keep people from stealing it. Anyway, after we checked in, we wandered down the street to find something to eat. Since it was almost 10pm, not much was open but we found a Greek restaurant that was still serving and went in to have dinner. Aaron devoured 3 courses of food. Surprise surprise, right?
We got up the next day and headed back to the metro to go into the City Center of Brussels. The city center looked like Atlanta except that it was covered in Mr. Kebab restaurants. There was a Mr. Kebab every 30 ft. I swear! It was hilarious. We basically spent the day wandering around the city and weaving in and out of the alley ways taking pictures of whatever we could find. The highlight of my trip to Brussels was our trip to the Belgium Waffle stand I went the simple route and only had one with strawberries. Aaron had one piled high with strawberries, whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Once again, he was happy even though I think he was about to go into a sugar coma. I got another charm for my bracelet which you are all going to think is really awkward looking but you’ll understand when you look at my pictures. Let me explain. My charm is of the pride and joy of Brussels…a statue of a young boy peeing into a fountain. I know, I know. That sounds really weird but they worship the thing around here. The people that live in the area love him so much that they have made over 200 outfits for the statue to wear during different parts of the year. They even have an outfit with USA on it. Its kinda creepy but still pretty funny at the same time. Anyway, it’s the symbol of Brussels so I am now the proud owner of a silver boy peeing to be place on my charm bracelet. What a great memory of Brussels. We went the American route for dinner and found a Subway. It was cheap and easy. I really don’t care if it was Belgian food or not. On a happy note, I got into all the classes I wanted for next year! And I still haven’t had a Friday class since freshman year! Yay! Life is good. Haha Our train leaves at 5am. Oh joy. I’ll write from Germany. Love you guys!
