DAY TWENTY NINE

As usual me and matt woke up and missed breakfast. We went straight to a place that hires mopeds!!!
today was the day before Balienses new year, they celebrate it by building a massive monster that is meant to scare away the evil spirits. They make as much noise as they can the day before at night time and do parades with these massive monsters and then usually they burn the monster. this is meant to wake up the bad spirits. The next day they would then stay in doors all day, not talk, not turn any lights on and not eat they would just meditate.

But anyway, when we were on the mopeds we were stuck in traffic because there were some people taking there monster to the field where everyone takes them. it was really cool to see one of the monsters. but once we had managed to get past it, we arrived at a place where there were about 10 more monsters and across then road were people meditating to the sound of chimes and drums. it was really cool and nice to see how the build up to the new year is very spirtual whereas we would normally get really drunk!

Because of all the ceremonies taking place, all the roads were re-directed, and therefore me and matt got ridiculously lost and ended up about an hour outside Ubud. Thanks to some very nice locals we got directed straight back to our hotel.

At the night we all went for tea where the restaurant over looked the field where all the monsters were chilling ready, waiting for the parade to start. once it got dark the parade took place. We decided to walk to the top of the main road so we could watch the people who built the monsters do a kind of dance with them.

It was hetic when we were at the top, they were spinning the monsters round and pretended to fall in the crowd. It got so messy that people were getting hurt by the people underthe monster moving it. When most of the big monsters had done there stuff we decided to call it a night
