The days you don't expect anything to happen end up being the best experiences... and you end up being an idiot and don't bring your camera.
Yesterday, I visited Taroko Gorge which is like the gran canyon of Taiwan. Absolutely grievous scenery! Mountains, cliffs, shrines, temples, plants galore and different animals then back home. Did you know that bees are black and orange in Taiwan and the the spiders are scary as hell. I drove on my scooter that I rented and stopped and did some hiking when it seemed fit.
As for today, my plan was to get lunch and a coffee and relax in Hualien City. As I was drinking my coffee on a bench, two guys who were sitting beside me for fifteen minutes finally approached me and said where are you from, followed by let us take you on a tour of the city and show you all the net things to see. The two of them were in the army and had the day off so one fellow went off to get me a helmet and the other explained to me where we would go; famous won ton soup kitchen, carp lake, two different beaches and the beat food I've eaten in Taiwan at a night market an last but not least a ride home from a cop on a scooter. Don't worry Mom and Dad, I was just lost, there was no drinking involved!
Anyways, it's amazing how proud people are of where they are from. It makes me proud of the way things are at home and I can't wait to have the experience to show visitors Canada when I get the chance like Dragon and Allen showed me theirs. Yes, one of the guys said his name in English was Dragon!
