Today, together with our two new pals Susie and Elaine, Rob and I went to Nim Binh for some adventures, and boy adventures did we have!!
Our driver (yup, we had a private 4x4 this time as our butts and internal organs still hadn't recovered from the 4 hour bus ride the day before) took us to a temple first where we walked around and saw row upon row of carved stone Buddahs.
We also walked up to the top of a great construction (note the lack of appropriate term as I have no idea what it was called!) where we could see the whole place, which is actually still under construction!
We then walked to the main place of worship where there was a huge golden Buddah surrounded by ornate and beautiful religious stone carvings (stork on a turtle etc).
It was a beautiful Pagadoda and even though they are still building the outer areas ready for the no doubt mass of tourists, it was a lovely place to visit.
We then took a short drive to grab some lunch as Rob and I hadn't eaten since the night before (yeay to some weight loss for me!) where we picked the place to eat for the fact a little kid was outside waving us to come in (all the other restaurants had adults outside waving to us).
Elaine said the food was terrible and we trusted her as she has lived in Saigon for 3 years though Rob ate his beef stir fry and rice and I had a good go at my stir fried green shots and rice (all eaten with chop sticks thank you very much!).
We then took a short drive to what turned out to be the funniest experience we have had so far.....!
Only opened this year and mostly known only to Vietnamese people is Trang Ang. A place where you can hire a little boat where a lady will row you through the most amazing scenery before taking you through 7 breath taking caves - many of which she politely yet firmly tells you duck.
And boy do you need to duck! The caves are so low in places that we all had to duck so low for such a long time we thought we may never be able to sit straight again! - Fantastic :)
To add to the fun of this little boat trip was the fact that it kept raining. We are not talking about a little splash either.
It chucked it down. We got so soaked and cold that to warm up we out our fingers in the water as it was warmer than we were!
In between the caves we helped the lady row by using some makeshift paddles of bamboo cane and roughly cut out tin for paddles (we didn't fashion these ourselves, they were already in the boat....!).
We laughed so much on this wonderful little boat :)
When we finally finished the tour (2 hours later) we were freezing and I mean freezing!
There was not a centimetre on any one of us that was dry.
Susie and Elaine went to the loo quickly where Susie (who has 1.5%) vision told us how upon seeing how wet she was a Vietnamese lady grabbed her hair and clearly not realising she couldn't see proceeded to bang her head into a dryer.
When she told Rob and I this story between her own peels of laughter Rob and I almost wet out pants as we laughed!
The trip back was one of soaked people all frozen and trying to somewhere dry any part of their clothing possible.
Waterproof (I challenge ANY manufacturer to truly say waterproof rather than splash proof after this boat trip!) coats and soaked tops were hung anywhere possible in the car and as we all (possibly a little reluctantly) agreed that it was more important for the driver to not have steamed windows so he could see we turned the heating off for the entire trip back..... Brrrrrrrr!!!
Thankfully we managed to get into some dry clothes at the airport where we said goodbye to our two new lovely friends.
Rob was adventurous and ate a hot dog (it seems to have been fine as I heard no dashing to the bathroom in the night) and we then flew 1hr to Hue.
What a fantastic, funny and memorable day indeed!! Loved it!!
Bleachy :)
