Well I am back in the City of Accra, which is not what one would think of when they hear city in the US. It is not su much of a build up as it is a build out sort of area. It is basically a lerge
sprawl of confusing roads with little to no traffic control and street vendors hawking anything that they can find.
speeking of hawking items.. if you are ever in Accra you have to go to the market downtown. the class when there yesterday and it is all on the bartering system. They start high you start low and
you meet in the middle. It's great. well except for the fact that ever single booth in a place with hundreds have people pulling you in trying to sell you their items and wont take no for an answer.
It was really difficult to walk through much less barter them to the lowest prices. I did fairly well though and some of you all will reep the benefits.
Also, I took a Taxi to the south african embassy to get my visa (which will be ready and cleared as of the 15th!) and that was quite the experience. Taxis are all on the barter system as well so i
ended up getting the guy down to 5 cedis ( about 5 us dollars) who then preceeded to get lost and i only made it back because i'm good at remembering landmarks. long story short, i'll be fine in
south africa is i can navigate the market places and roadways of Accra, Ghana.
Tonight we all went to a Salsa party at a hotel downtown and got taught to dance by some very nice ghanians (not they they all have not already proved to be the most welcoming people ever). me and
Stone tried our best, but for the most part we looked awkward and like the most uncordinated white people to ever hit the place. By the end we were all sweaty and hyped up causing us to sing on the
bus the whole way back to our hotel.
Well... tomorrow we go to the wood carvers outside of accra to wheel and deal again.. should be interesting..
goodnight Africa
