It was another early start to make sure we were at the airport in time to fly from Hanoi to Vientiane and start our journey through Laos.
After a 15 minute journey we arrived at our hotel in the Capital city (which is the smallest and quietist capital city I have ever seen). We headed to a lovely bakery and ordered sandwiches, I had been craving cheese as you dont see much, and if you do it is expensive, and I was finally able to have cheese in my sandwich!!
After lunch Amy, Jake and I hired a tuk-tuk to explore the city. We visited a couple of temples Wat Si Saket and Haw Pha Kaew, followed by Pha That Long, a tall golden temple, where there were young children running around with a knife (so we did not spend too much time here). We then headed to Patuxai - their version of the Arc de Triomphe, and paid to climb the steps to the top and got some great views over Vientiane.
The Mekong was a short walk from our hotel, so we decided to go and have a look at how low the water level was (from a roof top bar with a Beer Laos). While we were walking we were approached by a group of school children who wanted to ask us questions for a school project and then wanted their photos taken with us. Along this trip so many random people have now taken our photos!!
In the evening we went to a lovely restaurant which was a 'friends international training restaurant'. The restaurant works with marginalised youths, their families and communities to enable them to become productive, independent citizens, so they can go to school, learn a trade and no longer need to send their children to work. The food in the restaurant was amazing.
