Hey everyone!
Ok so I wasn't really planning on writing today but kinda felt I should after my first impressions of KL!
Firstly, I didn't write yesterday as I pretty much did nothing except sunbathing all day!! Rppftop terraces are a god send! Anna went in the evening so went and watched the 'sunset' (it was too cloudy to have a proper one!)! Ended up being the only one in the room for the night which was kinda cool although did realise how loud the air con was!! Left this morning to get the bus to KL, luckily it wasn't too far to walk! Had a nice easy bus journey up to KL although our bus driver did pull over to talk to the police at one point but don't think it was anything too major!!
So I got dropped off at a hotel about 2 blocks away from mine and had to struggle through the streets with my bag. KL is much more like the 'typical' city in Asia. In all the side streets, there were stalls actually on the road so only one car could pass through. It was a bit like London with car horns going constantly! Its very hot here, although its not helped with the closeness of the traffic!
Finally found my hostel and my first impression is that it is pretty small!! Its is probably only the width of our house at home, but luckily much deeper! No shoes are worn inside the hostel, they are all left outside!! And I will say it before you Dad- at least no-one will wanna nick mine!! Staff are very friendly though and got me checked in! So i headed upstairs to my room and, well, its a bit different to the other one! There are basically 4 bunk beds in the room.... and thats it! The toilet and showers are just outside the room, but the showers are basically a shower head and a drain on the floor!! Gotta admit, I was starting to think what the politest way to say I wouldn't be staying was, but then remembered I did only pay 8 quid for this!!
I started to get some ideas for things to do around KL for the coming days (no rooftop sunbathing here funnily enough!!) Not the easiest thing to do when the hostel doesn't have a proper map of KL!! So I headed out to find a bigger hotel which did have one! Then took a wander around the block, the way I had come from the bus but this time in a slightly less stressed manner! Stopped to have dinner at a local restaurant and had a nice fried veg/prawns/chicken and rice!! I have eaten so much rice over the last few days it is unbelieveable!!
So plans for the next few days are:
Wed- National Sports Complex
Thurs- KL lake and gardens and poss Islamic Art Museum
Fri- Twin towers and Chinatown
Sat- Shopping (not that I will be able to buy much)
Anyways gonna go and chill for a bit before attempting a shower :s wish me luck!
Will check in again soon
Sending lots of KL love xxxxx
