Another day had dawned and once again we had plans, first on the list was the Tower of London, at the moment around the tower are fields of poppies which commemorates 100 years since the first world war, and it has been named "Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' the poppies are made of ceramic and are installed where the moats were, plus at certain points they flow down from the castle walls and it looks as the walls are bleeding. The display is not completed yet as they have 888,246 poppies to install, but it is surely impressive.
The original tower is called the white tower and is within the actual walls of the tower complex with a lot of other buildings surrounding it. We started out by going around the high walls, and went through a lot of narrow passage ways, a lot of little rooms, up a lot of narrow spiral staircases, which make me wonder how the hell they managed to climb the stairs in the dresses that we see pictures of as those stairs are narrow.
Our next visit is the building that holds the crown jewels and what an exhibition, it also consists of all the swords, plates, chalices and all that goes with a coronation, I didn't realise that when the present queen was crowned she had to wear a cape that is years old and boy does it look heavy, a lot of gold workings and braid, but of course the centre piece are the crowns, no words can describe them, they are magnificent.
From there we went onto the original white tower and sadly we were both dissappointed in this building, I thought that it would be set up to look as though it was in those days but apart from a display of body armoury, the rest of the displays didn't seem to be relevant to the period of the tower.
Leaving the tower we took a river cruise of Thames and the water is just as murky as the Yarra,
We left the cruise at the London Eye and joined the line to buy tickets and as you can imagine this is now getting late in the day and the line seemed to be never ending, but wait, once you have your tickets you join another line to get onto the wheel, and 35 minutes later we got to the top of the line, the wait was worth it and the views of London all around were great. The wheel takes 30 minutes to do a full circle.
Back to the hotel for a rest and then on our way again, as Chrissy had booked us in to Gordon Ramsey's 'Bread Street Restaurant' what an experience, the food was amazing and the service staff were impeccable,
