We go back a day and it is Thursday, up early to catch the train to Berlin which was a 6 hours 15 minute trip, lucky we reserved our seats and got a cabin for a better word with only two other people in it and they slept most of the way, weather was beautiful and country side pretty, we passed through a lot of farming communities, only problem with the train "Due to technical difficulties" there was no hot food or drinks available, thank god we had had a coffee before we boarded and had some snacks, arriving in Berlin, we had a bit of a wait so with all the food outlets within the station we ended up at McDonalds, now I haven't had one of those for over 5 years and I still remember the taste, sitting down eating I mentioned to Chrissy " are these bigger than home". s*** yeah was her immediate reply, unfortunately Both of us couldn't finish them.
Boarded the train again for Prague which was another 4 hours 30 minute trip, after a while the scenery change from the flat country side to following a river with beautiful hills on either side and incredible homes built into the hillsides, finally arriving in Prague we caught a taxi to the apartment that we had booked on line overnight.
Now the apartment is in the most convenient location in what is known as the the old town of Prague, truly beautiful, but we will get back to the apartment, first of all you open the door straight off the street and go down a narrow passage way to the smallest lift I have ever seen, only two people can squeeze in it at a time, then up to the 4th floor, open the door and to the right is the smallest kitchen with a table and a washing machine crammed in, then there are usual mod cons, toilet and seperate shower, then you come into two very big rooms which one is a lounge and the other a bedroom, now we go back to the shower, it is the smallest shower I have ever seen, I turned the water on to have a shower and the water ended up in the passage way, Oh!!!! didn't I tell you that it didn't have a door on, and today the door handle fell of the toilet door and now we have trouble closing that, but look it is very clean and the washing machine was a bonus as we definately needed to wash clothes, and as I mentioned the location is fantastic,
Today being Friday breakfast was at Starbucks, latte and waffle with cream and caramel sauce, hell of a sugar fix, then it was just a wander around to get our bearings, found the same hop on hop off bus company and went for a ride with them, finally we had to go over to the train station to book our next leg of our journey, that took a bit of time then got back on to the bus to go to Prague Castle, which apparently is the biggest castle in the world, and it is beautiful, with a magnificent church in the court yard, sadly as the day was getting on we couldn't take a tour inside the castle but were able to go a bit of the way in the church and the stained glass windows are incredible.
Back to the city and had another walk around, back to apartment for a rest and then out to dinner, had the most amazing pasta.
Sadly we made an error in the amount of nights we booked the apartment and as we weren't able to extend for another night and we couldn't be bothered trying to find another place we are moving on tomorrow for Salzburg.
Prague is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen I believe it is called the city of 100 spires and interestly most of the population is athiest, only about 20 per cent of the population is baptised and mainly in the catholic faith, only approx 10 per cent attend church regularly which is hard to believe as there are so many churches in the city, and I am really sad that we haven't been able to spend more time and explore the city, it is one of the places I would definately come back to in a heart beat.
