The day started with Tokyo bathed in sun light. With the streets dry I headed to the local 7 Eleven, which are amazing stores and I wish they where in the UK. I brought food for breakfast and headed back to eat with Beverley.
Nice and full we headed out to find the nearest JR station so we didn't need to pay for the subway. Unfortunately we headed the wrong way. By the time we realised we where lost. We managed to find a subway and decided to cut our losses.
In the station while trying to get our barings a young child (about 2 years old and he was so cute) bumped into Beverley. We laughed as the mother apologied be we explained I was ok. We said hello and waved. The young boy waved as his mother ushered him away.
We made it to Tokyo Central and walked out the old exit. The historic building sat surrounded by high-rise steel and glass buildings. We made our way through to the Imperial plaza. The buildings gave way to large open green spaces with trees growing in odd shapes. Sadly as the imperial Palace is ancient it need to hide behind protective walls and moats. So we were unable to see it. This does explain why people like to see Buckingham Palace as its so easy to see.
We headed back in between the towering buildings and we wondered at what business and work was happening in them. Back at the train station we headed toward Tokyo Sky Tree.
We arrived at the Sky Tree and headed to the buy tickets. It was the first tourist thing we had done so far. The lift took us up 350m to the viewing area where we where treated to a view of the huge built up city. On a clear day you could see Mount Fuji but the weather wasn't on our side. We could see where the trains carved their way through the buildings. Roof tops of schools and leisure centers had swimming pools on them to save space. Running tracks and football pitches could be seen dotted around. Hidden in between the building where the ancient temples and shines of Tokyo's ancient past.
With our feet firmly back in the ground we managed to find a store we had been hunting for. The Studio Ghibli store was full of goodies that excited Beverley and we left with a bag full. The store also included giant characters from the film's.
Satisfied with our purchases we stoped for fried Noodles. We headed back and explored a near by market that was closed.
Back at the hostel we prepared to take on our next stop in our adventures.
