The morning started slowly as we awoke to a rainy Tokyo. We thought we may get some rain, it turned out to be a refreshing relief. Day-pack packed and rain coats on we headed out to the subway.
A couple of stops and we found our self in Akihabara (Tokyo's Electrical Town). The walls light up with adverts, and trailers for the latest games and movies. The stores called out to passers buy to sell the latest manga and trading cards.
We entered an arcade with a familiar name above the door (Sega). Bev jumped on a machine and worked out how to play. I left her to explore the upper levels. Kids and Adults focused on the in-depth games. Graphics exploded and danced across the screens, with numbers flying of characters. Some even had areas where people would lay their collected cards to use in the game. They where very fascinating and demanded a little more dedication from players than the arcade games back in the UK.
We left to explore some more. We eventually found ourselves in a electronic superstore. Curry's and PC World are tiny in comparison. 7 floors of electrical goods, games and Toy's. Beverley left me exploring the Games as she found a cuddly Moomin and Studio Ghibli goodies.
We caught a train to Shibuya which is home to the big road crossing you see in movies. With a coffee in hand we sat in Starbucks and witness the battle between vehicles and people as they took turns to take control of the junction outside the station. We left our vantage point and headed into the shopping area. Screens played music videos of the popular music performers of the day, and adverts for shops and Google.
Heading into Muji we brought some goodies for home and discussed the positives of Japan (they had a play area for mums and babies in the middle of the store - just because). We wished we had more range available in the UK.
Back at the hostel Beverley cooked some rice and we sat and tried Japanese Sake. I left Beverley at the hostel to hunt for a Mos Burger (Japan's version of fast food). It was worth the walk. Showered and ready for bed. Another day in Japan. What will happen in the next?
