An early start after breakfast which included traditionally cooked porridge.
We left Laggan for Inverness, close to the site of the Battle of Culloden.
Next stop Loch Ness but there was no sign of Nessie today. We drove for hours around Loch Ness enjoying the very beautiful scenery.
We toured through Eilean Donan Castle, where we had lunch. We drove further into the Highlands and then across the bridge to the Isle of Skye. This is the first time we have struck rain and gales on the trip.
We had a good look around the Clan McDonald Centre, museum and the ruins of the Castle. The ferry trip back to the mainland was a great experience for us, too.
We headed back to our hotel at Laggan stopping to look at Neptune's Ladder (a series of 8 locks for barge and small ship navigation); the rail bridge used as the setting for Harry Potter's train to Hogwarts; and the Manor House used as the setting for Monarch of the Glen.
The area is rugged but beautiful with cattles, sheep and red deer. We are lucky to be here during the Heather's 3 week annual bloom.
