Bonjour, Comment allez-vous? (Hello and how are you?)
We luuuuv Paris and need to come back and explore further.
Our day in Paris was filled with surprise and amazement at the monuments, architecture, food, atmosphere. Somebody should develop and implement a set of road rules or at least explain the rules to us because it appeared total chaos.
Having departed St Pancras Station at 8:19am on the Eurostar we travelled through English farmlands - mainly dairy, vegetable and lucerne growing. The trip through the tunnel under the English Channel only took about 20 minutes. Then we travelled through rural France for about an hour - pretty little hamlets dotted continuously throughout the area all the way into Paris.
We arrived into Gare du Nord in Paris at 11:45am and quickly got advice on how to get on the L'Open Tour 'hop on-hop off' city tour bus which took us to all the places of interest.
There were many surprises but some of the standouts included:
- Notre Dame Citadel
- the Lourve
- Palais de Justice
- St Marie Madelleine Church
- L 'Obisisk (interest in all things Egypt, especially Ramses II was piqued)
- the Arc de Triomphe proudly providing a gateway to the city. Along with about 15 - 20,000 others we walked the 1.91km along the Champs Elysee from the obelisk to the Arc de Triomphe grabbing a bite to eat along the way.
- the Eiffel Tower
- Assemblee Nationale
- Grand & Petie Palais
Best of all was the atmosphere, noise, the smells and the magnificent architecture attacking all of the senses at once.
We ended the day with dinner at the Paris Nord Cafe before joining the train for the return journey back to St Pancras station arriving 10.45pm.
Au revoir et à bientôt! (Bye and talk soon!).
